RE: Proposed Plan, Operable Units 1 and 2, Libby Asbestos Superfund Site
Dear Mr. Linnert:
On behalf of the Community Advisory Group (CAG), I want to thank you for providing the CAG the opportunity to comment on the Proposed Plan for Operable Units 1 and 2 of the Libby Asbestos Superfund Site. The CAG members appreciate the continued positive working relationship with the EPA.
The CAG met on January 14th and reviewed the comment letters from the City of Libby, the TAG and the DEQ. All members present were in unanimous agreement with the recommendations put forth in those letters. In short, we believe that a Record of Decision (ROD) should not be completed until a thorough risk assessment has been completed. However, if a ROD must be passed at this time, the CAG believes that it is imperative that it only be an interim ROD and that the plan clearly states the intent to make needed adjustments when the risk assessment is completed.
The CAG looks forward to working with the EPA as the details of the cleanup plan are established and the project is completed.
