In reading your letter several thoughts came to mind; I was born in the U.S. and am a PROUD U.S Citizen. Even though I’m NOT a proponent of communist ideologies, we are no longer living in the McCarthy era - We each have the right to our beliefs. If you feel as if you are being treated poorly as a result of your communist affiliation, that is something you should explore with the question; Why? And not categorically condemn Republicans, such as myself. Example; I don’t like to handle money (Germs), so if I work in a retail position where I receive and give money, I usually wait for money to be laid on the counter, then lay the change on the counter (Avoiding all hand-to-hand contact.) Many retail clerks prefer to do it this way in today’s world. However, in doing this a great psycho/socio experiment is being conducted. Watch the expressions on the faces of the customers. As a caucasian, I find that other whites express no concern over this; however, many non-whites give horrified looks, and occasionally get vocal. I do not do this s a result of racism, but some view this as racism toward their race. Their thoughts are primarily a result of low self-confidence and/or low self-esteem. Racism is not hidden in my subconscious, but it is clearly hidden in the other person’s subconscious. Could this be a factor to consider when you say you feel like you’re being treated like you have a disease?

Next; Communism is based on Marxism - Marxism as discussed by Karl Marx in the Communist Manifesto is essentially a hypothetical or experimental form of an egalitarian society. However, even when homo sapien sapiens were hunters and gatherers, egalitarianism could not function. Why? Because homo sapien sapiens have a cerebral cortex that encourages greed, egocentrism, and desire to control others. Ask any Cultural Anthropologist! Leninism expands on Marxism taking egalitarianism to another level – Imperialism (Which is the ultimate form of capitalism.) This simply substantiates the fact that egalitarianism is a great concept to think about, however can be nothing more than thought experiments.

You also mentioned that you distribute the “People’s Weekly World,” and that they mysteriously disappear. Might they disappear because people actually read them? I read them! Not because I feel I get any great enlightenment from the content, but simply because to intellectually and effectively argue a point, one must be intimate with all sides. Generally the “World” paper is about misinformation, whiners, and complainers, and not much about doers trying to make a better world. I cite an article in the Dec. 1 – 7 2007 edition by Emile Schepers, “Speaking up vs. anti-immigrant hate campaign” This article is full of misinformation. The issues revolving around illegal-immigrants are not about racism, they are about economics, health and welfare, taxes, jobs, etc… Ms. Schepers states that immigrants, even those without papers, have a lower crime and disease rate than native born U.S. Citizens. Well maybe Ms. Schepers’ should consider the real facts from prison systems and public health systems around the country, and not simply the contrived numbers the immigrant rights activists fabricate to plead their case.

Daniel, there is a great deal wrong with our country, it is clear that the freedoms we once held sacred are being systematically eroded away, it is clear that since World War I we focus far too much on areas outside our borders, when we should be considering creating a better life within our own borders. We all cry too much, without working on solutions. What I would suggest is that in lieu of complaining about the stares, and feeling you are being picked on by “move to Russia” comments, that you take a look at how you can improve your relationship with your neighbors. I’m sure you’re a good person, and you simply want what is best for you, your family, your community, and country. Understand that the vast majorities are at odds with our government, but too few work on making positive change. And do me a personal favor; Read some of the works of Alexis Tocqueville and John Locke.
